- Description: Bittensor’s token remains sharply higher than last week despite an August 26 pullback, as new developments across Teutonic, Chutes and other subnets add to a busy period for the ecosystem.

Bittensor's [TAO](https://www.tao.media/tag/tao/) token remains roughly 20% above its August 18 close after briefly touching $250 during a sharp crypto-wide rally, even as the market has started giving back some of its gains.

TAO closed August 18 at approximately $190.71 before climbing above $200 the following day and reaching an intraday high of approximately $249.78 on August 22\. The token was trading around $229 on August 26, putting it well below the weekly peak but still substantially above where the rally began.

The move marks a significant change from the first half of August, when TAO spent much of the month trading around $190 to $205.

## Bitcoin-Led Rally Pushes TAO Higher

Bitcoin moved above $80,000 on August 25, reaching a three-month high of $81,237.94\. The asset was up 28% for August at the time, while renewed optimism around U.S. crypto regulation and Treasury actions intended to contain long-term bond yields contributed to improving market sentiment.

The move spread across higher-beta crypto assets, with TAO climbing from roughly $190 on August 18 to more than $230 within three days.

Trading activity accelerated with the price. TAO volume rose from $56.4 million on August 18 to more than $213 million on August 21 and August 22, roughly quadrupling as the rally reached its strongest point.

That momentum has now begun cooling on August 26.

TAO was down roughly 3% over 24 hours, while broader crypto participation weakened significantly. Only seven of the 100 assets tracked by the QC100 index were higher on Wednesday, while Bitcoin remained more than 18% higher on the week despite falling on the day.

Such price activity is a familiar pattern following a rapid market-wide rally: TAO has surrendered part of its move toward $250 without returning to the sub-$200 range where it traded immediately before the breakout.

## Bittensor Ecosystem Activity Accelerates

While the broader crypto market is the clear catalyst behind TAO's price move, the rally has also arrived during a busy week for Bittensor itself.

On August 24, Bittensor's Teutonic Subnet 3 launched Teutonic-II, a permissionless training run for a roughly 110-billion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model.

The project represents a roughly 10x increase in model size from Teutonic-I, which used a 10-billion-parameter architecture. Participants independently train challenger models and compete to improve on the network's current best checkpoint, with validators determining whether a new model produces a statistically significant improvement.

The experiment is testing whether Bittensor's competitive decentralized training model can scale to substantially larger frontier-style workloads.

That same day, Chutes outlined a proposed "conviction lock" system designed to connect long-term token commitments with access to its decentralized GPU network.

Under the proposal, participants would lock stake to establish proportional claims on available compute capacity. Operators could then use that capacity for inference, fine-tuning, or resale, while holders that do not want to operate services directly could delegate their access to other providers.

Chutes is ultimately aiming to evolve from a company-operated AI service into a federated network of independent providers sharing the same underlying compute infrastructure.

The developments reflect three key experimentation areas that have become increasingly important to Bittensor: decentralized model training, commercial AI compute, and financial markets around subnet assets.
