Zipcode is shifting Bittensor Subnet 46 to a new inference-focused model under the Instant Inference brand, replacing its prior real estate and credit-market positioning with a revenue-driven service for fast, private AI inference.
Instant announced the launch yesterday, describing the product as "lightning fast private inference" on Subnet 46 and saying Ditto AI had signed agreements to access Instant for DittoBench. The project also opened a waitlist through the Instant website. Instant also followed the launch today with a separate Conviction update, saying the owner key had entered a 120,000 alpha perpetual lock.
Zipcode confirmed the pivot in a follow-up post, saying the team behind the subnet is not changing but that the brand and revenue model are. Zipcode is not being deprecated, but will continue separately on Base without a token while Subnet 46 moves toward Instant.
Why Subnet 46 Is Moving Toward Inference
The core message from the Zipcode team is that Subnet 46 is being redirected toward a more commercially direct market.
Zipcode said the team believes the shift is better for Subnet 46 stakers because the brand and revenue model can now focus on a market with clearer demand. The team framed Instant as a way to build a "sustained breakout subnet" on Bittensor while preserving the work already done around Zipcode’s real-world credit and real estate tools.
Inference is one of the most competitive categories in decentralized AI. It is the process of running an AI model to generate an output, such as a response, classification, prediction, or agent action. For users and developers, the value of an inference service depends on speed, privacy, reliability, price, model quality, and whether the system can be integrated into real products.
Instant is positioning itself around that demand.
"Inference is a booming market and contrary to popular belief, Bittensor doesn’t have enough market share."
Zipcode Will Continue Outside the Subnet
Zipcode said its real estate and credit work will "live on" outside the subnet structure, specifically on Base with no token. The team pointed to Zipcode.network, Zipcode.ai, and Zipcode.Finance as continuing pieces of that effort, including open-source model optimization for U.S. property pricing and an open-source credit warehouse.
Zipcode will remain useful internally as well, including as a credit tool for Instant and Ditto. According to Zipcode, the first loan tests are already underway, and operational alpha/USDC loans are expected soon.
V440 Raises the Pressure on Subnet Teams
Bigtensor CEO Seby Rubino tied the decision directly to recent changes in Bittensor’s economics.
"Bittensor changed... so we changed with it," Rubino wrote, adding that the network "no longer funds non-productive work" and that the outcome lets the team focus solely on revenue.
Rubino also said "440 happened" and that the team is trying to get ahead of what comes next by focusing fully on revenue. That reference points to Bittensor’s V440 upgrade, which changed how emissions are distributed across subnets by reducing rewards for weaker demand signals and concentrating more issuance around subnets that clear the network’s new threshold.

The Subnet 46 transition shows how quickly Bittensor’s market structure can force teams to adapt. It also lands in the middle of a broader debate about whether Bittensor is changing too quickly.
As we covered in Mark Creaser’s critique of Bittensor’s rule changes, the pace of governance and emissions updates is forcing builders to adapt around a rapidly changing rule set. Creaser, who heads DSV Fund, said "A casino at least keeps the same rules all night. Bittensor changes the table mid-hand and calls it an upgrade."
Instant Inference is a response to those very pressures. Now it's up to the team to not just lead their product to demand, but to also continue to keep up with the network itself.
