Minos has released MinosVM 2.0, a major update to its mining environment that introduces native AI agent support, bringing the project one step closer to autonomous mining on Bittensor.

The update, now live on Targon, integrates with OpenClaw, Hermes, and Ditto, allowing miners to connect AI assistants that can help optimize configurations, iterate between rounds, and reduce the manual work traditionally involved in competitive genomics mining.

What Is Minos?

Minos is Bittensor's genomics-focused subnet, transforming genomic variant calling into a decentralized competition.

Variant calling is the process of identifying mutations within DNA sequencing data, a foundational task in modern genomics used for research, diagnostics, and personalized medicine. Traditionally, labs evaluate their own pipelines with limited external verification, and benchmarking can vary significantly between organizations.

Minos replaces that model with an open competition.

Every 72 minutes, the network generates a new synthetic genome containing hidden mutations. Miners submit optimized variant-calling pipelines designed to detect those mutations, while validators independently execute and score each submission against a hidden ground truth using industry-standard benchmarking tools. The highest-performing miners earn Bittensor emissions, creating continuous economic incentives to improve genomic accuracy.

Instead of relying on self-reported performance, Minos turns accuracy itself into the competitive product.

What MinosVM 2.0 Does

MinosVM was originally introduced to simplify participation in the subnet by removing much of the setup complexity required to begin mining.

Instead of manually configuring environments and dependencies, miners can launch a preconfigured virtual machine designed specifically for Minos. The goal is to reduce onboarding friction so participants can spend more time improving their models instead of managing infrastructure.

Version 2.0 expands that vision by introducing AI assistants directly into the workflow.

Miners can now connect compatible AI agents that help optimize configurations, iterate on strategies, and assist with day-to-day mining operations. The integrations currently support OpenClaw, Nous Research, and Ditto AI through Targon Compute.
