404, the team behind Bittensor Subnet 17, has announced the release of what it says is the world's largest open-source synthetic 3D dataset.
The repository now contains more than 21.5 million high-fidelity 3D assets spanning approximately 40TB of data, with the project claiming the collection exceeds the combined volume of all other existing open-source 3D datasets.

Unlike traditional datasets built by manually creating or collecting assets, 404's repository is generated synthetically. Synthetic datasets are produced programmatically, allowing developers to create significantly larger and more diverse collections than would be practical through human effort alone.
The team says this approach addresses one of the largest bottlenecks in 3D AI development: the lack of sufficiently large, high-quality training data for modern generative models.
"Training better 3D models requires a massive amount of high-quality assets, metadata, and variation. Human-created 3D data alone cannot scale fast enough to meet that demand."
Why 404 is Building on Bittensor
404 said the dataset is produced through its decentralized network of Bittensor miners, who are rewarded for generating high-quality 3D assets at scale.

Instead of relying on a centralized production pipeline, the subnet distributes generation across independent participants before scoring, filtering, and aggregating outputs into a unified dataset. This enables the network to generate, score, filter, and aggregate 3D content faster than traditional, centralized pipelines.
The resulting repository includes:
- More than 21.5 million high-fidelity 3D assets
- Approximately 40TB of storage
- Open-source assets with attribution-ready licensing
- Metadata, usage rights, and ownership attribution
- Assets intended for 3D generative AI, Gaussian Splatting, NeRF research, AR/VR applications, and game development
Dataset Available Across Multiple Access Tiers
404 is making the dataset available through several access options depending on user needs.
A 404 Mini tier offers a smaller sample designed for researchers and developers evaluating the dataset, while Full Dataset Access provides the complete 40TB repository for commercial AI training, institutional research, and studio production pipelines.
The team is also offering Direct API Access for organizations that want to integrate the dataset directly into automated training workflows.
Access requests are available through 404's dataset portal.
