Bittensor's TAO has rallied more than 20% today following Anthropic's announcement that it was suspending access to its newly released Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models following a U.S. government directive, reigniting discussion around centralized control of advanced AI systems.

Anthropic said the U.S. government had issued an export control directive requiring the company to suspend access to both models for all users. The order cited national security authorities, though the company said it was not provided detailed evidence supporting the decision.
Anthropic said it believes the government's concerns stem from a reported jailbreak technique capable of exposing a small number of previously known vulnerabilities. The company disputed the severity of the findings, arguing that the capabilities demonstrated were already available through other publicly available models and did not justify removing access to models deployed to hundreds of millions of users.
"We disagree that the finding of a narrow potential jailbreak should be cause for recalling a commercial model," the company said.
In response to Anthropic's announcement of the update on X, Bittensor co-founder Jacob Steeves ("Const") tweeted:
"And just like that we collectively saw the future of inequality."
For years, a core part of the Bittensor thesis has been that concentration of advanced models within a handful of frontier labs creates systemic risks, and Anthropic's suspension now provides a tangible example of exactly that. Unlike Anthropic, Bittensor can't be banned or suspended. No government, corporation, or powerful individual can stop decentralized, permissionless intelligence.
TAO has climbed sharply following the announcement, up more than 20% today. While it's still very early here, this moment could be the narrative fuel that TAO has needed to regain market outperformance.
Whether or not that occurs, what matters is that intelligence shouldn't be confined to a select group of centralized frontier labs. It should be should be owned, operated, and accessible to all.
